Who watchdogs the watchdogs on Sudan?

KYIV — Sudan’s civilians are being failed on the battlefield. They should not be failed in the footnotes, too.

The organizations documenting the war carry enormous responsibility. Their reports help shape how the world understands the bloodshed, who gets blamed and who faces demands for sanctions.

A weapon photographed on a battlefield can reveal who manufactured it. Establishing who shipped it, who paid for it and whether a government approved the transfer takes more work.

Those distinctions matter when a country stands accused of helping fuel a war.
